The debris flow control system, which was created in the 1960–1970 on the territory of the Crimean Peninsula consists of a complex of erosion control and hydraulic structures, needs to be re-equipped almost everywhere, taking into account the changes in the conditions of debris flow formation that have occurred over the past quarter century. Due to the changing situation in watercourse channels, the failure of debris flow protection structures, the accumulation and movement of sediments, slope deformations, and other factors, additional research is needed to better understand the conditions that lead to and affect debris formation and movement. Besides, special attention should be paid to the processes of accumulation of solid material, as one of the main factors leading to debris flows. At the same time, it is important to assess the condition of the debris flow protection structures, which can indicate the level of appropriateness of their use. Therefore, it is urgent and necessary to predict debris flow hazard and develop measures to reduce them. This requires conducting complex engineering-ecological monitoring, including the observation and simultaneous acquisition of data on the accumulation and movement of solid and liquid components in space and time. The publication examines the territorial characteristics of debris flow development on the Crimean Peninsula. The factors that contribute to debris flow hazard are described, as well as the characteristic of debris flows that occur on the territory of the Crimean Peninsula. The aim of this work is to justify ecological-engineering solutions for the reconstruction of hydraulic structures for controlling debris flows in debris flow-prone river basins on the Crimean Peninsula. The focus of this research is the southeastern debris flow area. During the research, the conditions that lead to debris flows on the Crimean Peninsula were investigated. Existing methods for assessing debris flow hazards were reviewed, and the current state of debris flow control structures was assessed. Based on this information, recommendations were developed for improving these structures.
